Foundational Literacy and Numeracy :

The aims of foundational literacy and numeracy are closely linked to the aims of education as a whole. Besides its instrumental value, education also has intrinsic value and emancipatory value. Success at Foundational Literacy and Numeracy enhances future learning capacities and also enhances participation in economic, social, and developmental factors throughout life.

Thoughtful Reading or the Intentional act of slow reading or Deep Reading is also the goal of Foundational Literacy and Numeracy.

Some goals of Foundational Literacy are as follows – Pre-Math Concept, Numbers and Operations, Measurement, Geometry, and Patterns.

Some goals of Foundational Literacy are as follows – Oral Language Development, Phonological Awareness, Decoding, Concept About Print, Writing, Culture of Reading, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, and Reading Fluency.

Quality Children’s Literature

Books are the most important source for language & literature, concepts, and lessons for children. Both parents and schools end up buying those books which are much visible due to advertisements. Big quality may also be high in sell charts, but books that are high in top-sales charts may not necessarily be a good quality book.

Choosing a good quality book, impacts children’s early literacy in a much larger manner.
There are upmarket and downmarket books.
The ZERO Curriculum™ decides quality children’s literature on the basis of complex text, narrative, plot, character, character actions, dialogue, setting, thematic constructions, the richness of language, characters, engagement, illustrations et al.

Downward Extensions and Connections among Subjects / Content Areas

To many, it may seem that Kindergarten is ‘early level’ of School or Grade 1, and Pre-Kindergarten (PlayGroup, Nursery) is also ‘quite an early level’ of School or Grade 1.
But, The ZERO Curriculum™ understands that Preschool Education is not a mere downward extension of School or Grade 1.
Preschool Education has much wider coverage. E.g. ‘Early mathematical skills’ are way different from just being a downward extension of School grade mathematics or Mathematics of Grade 1.

Join us to bring High-Quality Preschool Curriculum – a continuum approach

Parent inclusive : Parents as Partners

We at The ZERO Curriculum™ not only collect feedback from parents but place them as partners within the curriculum delivery. We call “Parents as Partners”.

Presently parents are very demanding and they are also becoming more aware day by day, due to the spread of IT and other initiatives. Everyday Parents raises questions, which Teachers / Principals may find tough to address. But, we solicit them and include them.

Social Studies

The challenges, which are to be faced by mankind, twenty years from now, would be more challenging than could be easily addressed in the parameters of Science alone, or Mathematics alone. Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences are going to play roles much larger than it could be visualized.

So, our Social Studies Curriculum, the teaching, and the learning will happen, in an exact way, it should be – “appreciating Facts, appreciating Past, Environment consciousness”.

Play vs Hard work – Hard work itself is FUN™

In general parlance, ‘play’ and ‘hard work’ is highly misused words.
Just like ‘Mathematics’, even ‘LUDO’ (a simple board game) has rules, but everybody enjoys learning those rules. Simply put, more than the actual content, it’s the manner in which instructions are taken and given that makes the whole difference.
When it comes to the child, a play taken up by the child may be quite complex, but, the child enjoys playing it. As long as things are developmentally appropriate and the child enjoys it, it is fun. That’s why we say – Hard work itself is FUN™.

Learning through Play @ The ZERO Curriculum™

In play a child is always above his average age, above his daily behavior … – Vygotsky

Abstract Thinking, Self regulation, rule-based, Complex play!

Play is NOT idle babysitting Play™

When it comes to ‘Preschool Education’, ‘play’ is a highly misused and misunderstood word.
A child may have infinite ways of playing.
In ‘Preschool Education’ (ECCE) philosophy, the play could be anything like – Free Play, Guided Play, Playful learning, Playful pedagogy, Learning through play, playful classroom, symbolic play, pretend play, imaginative play, playful settings, supplement play, etc, but it a simple babysitting and child wandering around and playing itself, is not at all ‘play’ which we would want to happen.
That’s why The ZERO Curriculum™ says – Play is NOT idle babysitting Play™.

In play a child is always above his average age, above his daily behavior … – Vygotsky

Abstract Thinking, Self regulation, rule-based, Complex play!

How we Teach is more important than What we Teach™

Suppose we are teaching about an ‘xyz’ animal. Now, what animal we are teaching would hold lesser importance then, how and what we teach about that animal –
The list of such How’s is also very long – how instructional exercises are to be carried out? How are activities to be done? How discussion is to be started? How to conduct the related thematic activity? How to use Flash Card? How to use worksheets? And much more. All such How’s has been properly addressed in The ZERO Curriculum™.

High-Quality Curriculum @ The ZERO Curriculum™

Choice, Identity, Responsibility, Goal setting

However, overall both How and What we teach is important!
